The Coastal Reopening Ride: Half Moon Bay to Big Sur

Celebrate the reopening of Highway 1 with an epic 185-mile journey down the California coast.

After three long years of waiting, the full stretch of Highway 1 is finally open! Join us for a day of technical coastal range twisties, world-class views, and the best tri-tip on the coast. This is a spirited 6-hour ride (including stops) designed for prepared riders who love the Pacific breeze and winding tarmac.

Member sign up opens Jan 18. Initiate member signup opens Jan 25. This is a popular event so please cancel if your plans change to avoid a no show fee.

We have booked the Plaskeet Creek Group Site for two days. February 20 to 22.  The Club ride is Saturday, Feb 21.  

The Schedule

  • 08:00 AM: Meet for breakfast at Pilot Light, in Half Moon Bay on Saturday with a full tank of gas and enjoy a great meal and conversation with the crew before we head out.

  • ️The Route

    We’ll head south, primarily hugging Highway 1, with several strategic offshoots into the Coastal Range to hit those legendary motorcycling roads.

    • Mid-Way Stop: We’re stopping at the famous Freedom Meat Locker. Grab a quick lunch and pack some of their iconic sausage or tri-tip for your dinner tonight. (Note: If you need other supplies, there is a Safeway right around the corner).

    • Fuel Strategy: We will stop for a gas top-off in Carmel to ensure everyone has a full tank before we hit the newly reopened stretch through Big Sur.

    • The View: If the coastal fog behaves and the skies are clear, we’ll make a special stop at Nepenthe for one of the most iconic vistas in California.

    ️ Rider Requirements

    To keep the group moving and safe, please ensure you arrive with:

    1. A Full Tank: Start with a full load of fuel at Pilot Light.

    2. Navigation Ready: Have the GPS routes loaded and functional on your device.

    3. Route Knowledge: Review the map beforehand so you are familiar with the turns and stops.

    Total Distance: ~185 Miles

    Duration: Approx. 6 Hours with breaks and lunch
